Last year, Colts outside linebacker Robert Mathis took to twitter to express his free agent wish list for the Colts in a fashion that would make owner Jim Irsay proud.
Even though he said he wouldn't do it this year, Mathis couldn't resist and again gave us clues as to his free agency wish list for his Colts team. Here are the tweets, and we'll decipher them for you.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Not often do you find a giant to this degree... To leave the dark side for the right side equipped with a championship pedigree!!</p>— ROBERT MATHIS The1st (@RobertMathis98) <a href="https://twitter.com/RobertMathis98/status/573560617581195266">March 5, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Mathis here is referring to Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork, who announced this morning that the team will not pick up his option, making him a free agent. We looked at Wilfork as he pertains to the Colts here. And a bonus: Mathis referring to the Patriots as "the dark side." Perfect.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>This guy simply can not be ignored on any specific Sunday, getting burned religiously look at the back of his 80 with a name like ----- </p>— ROBERT MATHIS The1st (@RobertMathis98) <a href="https://twitter.com/RobertMathis98/status/573562074334265344">March 5, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Here, Mathis is referring to Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson. It sounds like Johnson is done with the Texans and will either be traded or released, and his agent wants it to be a release. We also looked at Johnson as he pertains to the Colts here.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>I said I wouldn't do it, this year bc I need to worry about myself, can't help it!! So Suh me!!</p>— ROBERT MATHIS The1st (@RobertMathis98) <a href="https://twitter.com/RobertMathis98/status/573562754801389570">March 5, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
The most obvious of the group, Mathis gives this one away with the last phrase, making it clear that he is talking about Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh, who is set to become a free agent on Tuesday. We've taken a number of looks at Suh, including this one here.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Another dark side raid to wish for is their QB.......of the secondary! Put on YA overalls, grab a brick and slang cement n join the BTMgang</p>— ROBERT MATHIS The1st (@RobertMathis98) <a href="https://twitter.com/RobertMathis98/status/573565227133874176">March 5, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Once again referring to the Patriots as the "dark side," Mathis is talking about Patriots safety Devin McCourty, who is set to become a free agent on Tuesday as well. We looked at how the Colts should definitely pursue McCourty here.
So there you have it, Colts fans. Taking after Jim Irsay on twitter with riddles, outside linebacker Robert Mathis gave his free agent wish list for this year, and it includes Vince Wilfork, Andre Johnson, Ndamukong Suh, and Devin McCourty. That's not a bad list at all.
