The Colts need to add receiver help this offseason, and that the team was planning to do so was evidenced even more clearly by the fact that the Colts announced they would not be re-signing Reggie Wayne. They do need a veteran wide receiver, and it sounds like they've been showing interest in a number of different players. One such name is Ravens receiver Torrey Smith, as ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Feeling I get on Torrey Smith and <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/49ers?src=hash">#49ers</a> (following up last night's info): Unless $$ is too rich for them, they'll get a deal done.</p>— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) <a href="https://twitter.com/caplannfl/status/574632075917156353">March 8, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Colts?src=hash">#Colts</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Texans?src=hash">#Texans</a> also have interest. But both teams are evaluating other WRs as well, sources said.</p>— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) <a href="https://twitter.com/caplannfl/status/574632118338371584">March 8, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Of course, it is crucial to remember that the 49ers are still considered the favorites and that it's likely that Smith could end up there, but the Colts have also reportedly expressed some interest. In four seasons with the Ravens, Smith has caught 213 passes for 3,591 yards and 30 touchdowns. He has certainly produced, but he'll likely come with a significant price tag. Perhaps the more significant part of Caplan's report is that the Colts are also looking at other receivers, as they do need to add a veteran in free agency and are likely to do so. I just wouldn't count on it being Smith.
