The Indianapolis Colts drafted eight players this past weekend, and while none of them are officially under contract yet, we do know what numbers they will wear, first taking the field this weekend for the team's rookie minicamp.
Per the Colts' team roster, here are the numbers for the eight draft picks:
Phillip Dorsett, WR - number 16
D'Joun Smith, CB - number 30
Henry Anderson, DE - number 96
Clayton Geathers, S - number 42
David Parry, DT - number 54
Josh Robinson, RB - number 34
Amarlo Herrera, LB - number 49
Denzelle Good, OT, number 71
Dorsett isn't the first speedy wide receiver to wear number 16 recently, as that was the same number that Da'Rick Rogers wore during his time with the team. Dorsett, however, should be much more productive than Rogers was. And Colts fans won't like seeing a defensive back wearing the number 30 that LaRon Landry wore the past two seasons, but looking at it another way, D'Joun Smith should pretty easily exceed the expectations that the number brings. Henry Anderson will wear number 96, available since Josh Chapman changed his number to 99 this offseason. And a Colts running back wearing number 34? Well, that might bring back some bad memories… but I like Josh Robinson, and he shouldn't have any trouble exceeding expectations at that number either.
The jersey numbers are simply something interesting to look at during the offseason so that we can get an idea of seeing them on the field this fall. While that's still a few months away, we can at least now know the jersey numbers that the rookies will be wearing when training camp opens up.
