As training camps and preseason games continue, NFL teams are beginning to figure out where their weaknesses lie, whether due to talent or due to injury. Because of that, we could see the interest in some veteran free agents begin to pick up, which seems to be the case with former Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne.
Yesterday, it was reported that Wayne was in New England taking a physical with the Patriots. That, of course, conveys some level of interest between the two sides, though no signing has taken place yet. And according to ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini, there may be another team interested in Wayne: the Green Bay Packers.
Of course, Green Bay suffered a major blow yesterday when wide receiver Jordy Nelson suffered what is believed to be a torn ACL. The team is still waiting on the MRI to tell for sure, but the initial reports aren't good. Russini is reporting that, pending the results of that MRI, the Packers are expected to give Wayne a call.

If that is indeed the case, it's a pretty nice week to be Reggie Wayne. Drawing interest from two legitimate contenders with two of the league's best quarterbacks? Not bad for a veteran wide receiver who is looking to win a Super Bowl before he retires. Both the Patriots and the Packers made it to at least the conference championship games last year, while both Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are among the very best in the NFL.
The Packers still have Randall Cobb and Davante Adams, but Wayne could find a nice role behind those players as a veteran possession receiver. And, unlike many Colts fans, I still think Wayne could have a productive season. He's now two-years removed from his torn ACL and should be recovered from his elbow injury - both of which tainted his numbers over the past year or two. He won't be the Reggie Wayne of old, but he could still fit in nicely with a contender - especially one with a great quarterback.
It sounds as if the market for Reggie Wayne is finally heating up, as many expected it would around this time. And though Wayne really wanted to return to the Colts, his options might not end up being too bad, as it sounds like the Patriots and Packers both might have at least some interest in the receiver.
