Colts waive-injured Deveron Carr to get roster down to 75-players

The Indianapolis Colts' roster now stands at the required 75-player limit after the team cleared 15 roster spots on Monday.

With teams required to cut their rosters down from 90-players to 75-players by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 1, the Indianapolis Colts are getting a head start.  They have cleared the 15 spots needed today and therefore they have their roster at 75-players already, a day before required.

The final move came when the team waived-injured cornerback Deveron Carr.  He was initially signed by the Colts as a free agent after working out at the Veteran Combine.  He had spent time in each of the past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  If Carr clears waivers, he will revert to the team's injured reserve.  And, if he does clear waivers, the Colts could have quite the group of cornerbacks on their injured reserve.  Josh Mitchell has been on IR for a while, and then earlier today the team placed Tevin Mitchel on the IR list as well.  Also today, they waived-injured cornerback Donald Celiscar, who will revert to the team's IR if he clears waivers just like Carr will.  There are some cornerbacks the Colts might be interested in working with next season on their IR, but we'll just have to see - because, after all, a lot can change in a year.

In addition to placing Mitchel on injured reserve and waiving-injured Celiscar and Carr, the Colts also released 12 players this morning.  Here's the list of players they released:

Donald Thomas, guard (READ MORE ON THE RELEASE OF THOMAS)

Harland Gunn, guard

Nicklas Haag, inside linebacker

Zack Hodges, outside linebacker

Tyler Hoover, tackle

Ryan Lankford, wide receiver

Jeris Pendleton, defensive tackle

Ezell Ruffin, wide receiver

Justin Shirk, inside linebacker

Justin Sinz, tight end

Abou Toure, running back

Brandon Vitabile, center

The team's roster is now at the required 75-player limit and it will remain at that point through Thursday night's preseason finale.  Then, the team will need to cut the roster down to 53-players (clearing up an additional 22 spots) by Saturday, September 5, at 4:00 p.m.  The second round of cuts is typically the hardest one, as those are normally the players closest to making the 53-man roster.
