Out here at practice today from Anderson University for Colts training camp, it's a pretty busy day. Not only is it the team's first day in pads (they're in shells today with full pads coming tomorrow), but there are also several notable visitors. NFL Network is here, as is SiriusXM NFL radio. Also in attendance at practice, however, is super-agent Drew Rosenhaus.
This is noteworthy news for this reason: Rosenhaus is the agent for Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, who wants a new contract and who is currently in negotiations with the team, according to multiple reports. Rosenhaus represents a large number of NFL players (including Colts players), but his presence at practice today would seem to indicate that him and the Colts are indeed working on an extension for Hilton.
It wouldn't come as any surprise whatsoever if the Colts and Hilton reached an agreement on a long-term extension before the regular season starts, as the wideout is entering the final year of his rookie deal. He wants - and deserves - a new contract and it's very likely he'll get it.
So far in training camp, Hilton has been arguably the biggest star, as he has been very impressive - catching everything thrown his way, showing off his timing with Andrew Luck, and having a big role in the offense. He has been the team's number one wide receiver and Luck's favorite target for much of the past two seasons, and in 2014 he was named to the Pro Bowl for his play. As one of the league's top wideouts and Luck's favorite target, locking him up long-term is smart. Hopefully, the fact that Drew Rosenhaus is at practice today in Anderson is an indication that the talks are progressing nicely.
