Colts sign Kitt O'Brien, waive Ben Heenan with injury settlement

The Indianapolis Colts announced today they have signed offensive lineman Kitt O'Brien and waived guard Ben Heenan with an injury settlement.

Earlier today, head coach Chuck Pagano revealed that Heenan suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee during Wednesday night's practice that will keep them out 4 to 6 weeks. The Colts decided to waive him with an injury settlement, which is different than being waived/injured, which would mean he would revert to the team's injured reserve if he cleared waivers. Being waived with an injury settlement means that he will not revert to the teams IR but instead will be a free agent if he clears waivers. However, the Colts still might choose to bring him back once he is healthy. The former first overall pick in the CFL draft in 2012, Heenan is a versatile lineman with potential who would be worth continuing to work with for the Colts, but currently they need the roster spot.

To replace Heenan's spot, the Colts signed Kitt O'Brien, a 6-5, 310 pound lineman who played the last two years in the Arena Football League. He played collegiately at Ball State, where he started 36 out of 40 career games. In two years in the AFL, he has started 23 games, including all 18 in 2014.
