The NFL returns to action tonight with the Patriots and Steelers, but we've still got a few days before the Indianapolis Colts open the regular season against the Bills, which will be this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET in Buffalo.
We're keeping a close eye on those players who might not be able to go for that game, and so let's take a look at Thursday's injury report, followed by some notes:
Did Not Practice:
Greg Toler, CB (neck)
Vick Ballard, RB (hamstring)
Bjoern Werner, OLB (knee)
Limited Practice:
Nate Irving, ILB (knee)
Robert Mathis, OLB (Achilles)
D'Joun Smith, CB (knee)
D'Qwell Jackson, ILB (toe)
Full Practice:
Sheldon Price, CB (concussion)
A few notes:
- I'd be very, very surprised if either Greg Toler or Vick Ballard play on Sunday. They both missed practice Wednesday as well and all indications are sounding like they will miss, though there has been no indication yet. Bjoern Werner was added to the list today as he didn't practice, and I'm not sure the details on that injury. I know he has dealt with injuries often in the past couple of years, so maybe this is a recurring thing (Werner also sat out at different points in training camp). I'm just speculating, however, as we don't have many details on the injury.
- D'Qwell Jackson was also added to the list as he was limited today with a toe injury.
- Sheldon Price was a full participant today, which is good to see after yesterday he still wasn't ready for full contact. Hopefully this means he will be ready to go on Sunday, as the cornerback position is hurting a bit (Toler is likely to miss the game and then both Price and D'Joun Smith are on the injury report as well).
- So far, so good when it comes to Robert Mathis, as he was again a limited participant in practice today. The hope is that he will be able to play Sunday in a limited role (likely on a strict snap count as a situational pass rusher), but we'll have to wait and see before knowing for sure.
