Colts vs. Jets: Five Questions with Gang Green Nation about the Jets and Monday's matchup

With the Indianapolis Colts facing the New York Jets on Monday Night Football, Stampede Blue's Josh Wilson talked with Gang Green Nation's Scott Salmon about the Jets and this Monday's matchup.  The questions are in bold and then Scott's responses follow.

1.  We know that the Jets secondary is good this year, led by Darrelle Revis.  But if Antonio Cromartie can't play, do the Jets have enough depth to step up and still give the Colts' receivers trouble?

The cornerback position is actually one of the positions the team is deepest, along with defensive line. When Cromartie went down last week, his backup was Marcus Williams, a former UDFA. He had an interception and nearly forced a fumble (although the referees ruled it an incomplete pass). So he's looked pretty good. Behind him is Dexter McDougle, last year's third round pick. So there's plenty of depth to go with Revis and Buster Skrine. That's one of the position groups I feel most comfortable about with an injury.

2.  Sheldon Richardson is suspended for the first four games of the season, which includes this Monday night's game.  How big of a loss is that for the Jets?

The Jets got very lucky that they were able to get Leonard Williams. That isn't to say Richardson isn't missed; he's one of the best in the league. But Williams has also looked as advertised, so it isn't as big a loss as it would have been in any other year.

3.  We saw the Bills give the Colts a lot of trouble by blitzing them last week.  Do you expect the Jets to take a similar approach versus Indy this week?

Todd Bowles was one of the heaviest blitzes in the league last year, but we didn't see it very much last week. That could have been a matchup thing, as the Cleveland Browns have a great offensive line. I'm hesitant to predict anything about Bowles' tendencies yet just because it's so early in his tenure, but it's certainly what I would do.

4.  What players on the offensive side of the football could give the Colts trouble on Monday night?

For the first time in what feels like ever, the team has several good receivers. It depends on how much Vontae Davis is matched against him, but Brandon Marshall is probably going to give the Colts fits. If they try and bracket him, Eric Decker has been very good for the team as well. As for running back, Chris Ivory has always been a hard runner, and is statistically one of the best in the league after contact after Marshawn Lynch. After Marshall, he may be the toughest matchup with the Colts run defense issues. Frankly, there isn't much at tight end, so if you're looking for some comfort, there isn't really anyone there that will present issues for the Colts.

5.  What are the early impressions from Jets fans about head coach Todd Bowles?

With Bowles, it seems like the grown ups are finally at the table. We no longer have someone that openly admits he doesn't know anything about offense, and isn't trying to keep it back in a 1960s ground and pound system. Bowles is a mature adult that doesn't rely on his roller coaster emotions to make critical decisions, so it's been a nice change of pace.
