As we get closer to 4:00 p.m. ET, plenty of cuts are starting to leak out for teams, but the Indianapolis Colts have been relatively quiet. One of the moves the team is expected to make, however, is to place rookie inside linebacker Junior Sylvestre on injured reserve. This is according to the Indianapolis Star's Stephen Holder:
The moves are already underway. The Colts have informed rookie linebacker Junior Sylvestre that he'll be placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury Thursday night, according to an NFL source. An undrafted free agent from Toledo, Sylvestre emerged in the preseason, leading the Colts in tackles.
Sylvestre was one of the stars of training camp for the Colts, making plays all over the field and having a big impact. He was always near the play and made several of them, and he seemed to be firmly in the competition at inside linebacker. He was still a player very much on the bubble, but he had a strong preseason resume to try to make the team. He left Thursday's preseason finale late with an ankle injury, and it sounds like it ended up being a pretty serious one.

Placing him on injured reserve means that he will stay with the Colts this season and then will allow the team to work with him some more, which isn't a terrible result for Sylvestre. With the addition of Sio Moore yesterday, it likely meant that Amarlo Herrera and Junior Sylvestre's chances of making the roster took a hit, so now Sylvestre will be able to stay with the team - though this is absolutely not the way he would have wanted it to happen.
An undrafted free agent out of Toledo, Sylvestre played in 51 career games there where he was very productive. He continued that productivity with the Colts this preseason, but unfortunately it sounds like an injury on Thursday night will ned his season and thus end his chances of making the 53-man roster this year. Hopefully he'll come back healthy next year and continue to compete.
