Report: Colts have reached out to Joe Philbin about offensive line coach job

According to the Palm Beach Post's Andrew Abramson, the Colts have reached out to former Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin about their offensive line coach job.

The Colts' search to fill their coaching staff continues, and one of the areas that the team is likely looking to address is their offensive line coach position.  Reports have suggested that one of the Colts' line coaches has an expiring contract, which has led to FOX Sports reporting that the Colts interviewed several different names and in fact offered the job to Chris Foerster.  Last night, however, it was announced by the Dolphins that Foerster would be joining their staff as offensive line coach.

The Colts' search continues, and a very interesting name has come up as someone garnering some interest from Indianapolis.  According to the Palm Beach Post's Andrew Abramson (and h/t to Pro Football Talk), the Colts have "reached out" to former Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin as a candidate for their offensive line coach position.

Philbin was the head coach of the Dolphins from 2012-2015, as he was fired just four games into the 2015 campaign.  He compiled a 24-28 record (.462) during his time there, including back-to-back 8-8 seasons in 2013 and 2014.  Before being hired by the Dolphins, Philbin was the offensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers for five seasons (2007-2011), leading a very successful offensive attack and won a Super Bowl.  Before that, he was the offensive line coach for the Packers for several seasons and also had a stint coaching tight ends.  He was Iowa's offensive line coach from 1999-2002, and before that was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for Northeastern (1995-1996) and then for Harvard (1997-1998), in addition to other college jobs.

It's an interesting report namely because Joe Philbin was a head coach last year, though at the same time his line in Miami was pretty bad.  It appears as if the Colts didn't get their first choice for their offensive line coach as Chris Foerster took the Dolphins job instead, and while reports say the Colts have talked to John Benton and Pat Flaherty as well, Joe Philbin might now be entering the mix also.
