The Indianapolis Colts will have a very different-looking coaching staff in 2016, but one of the coaches who was kept around is getting looks from another franchise. According to FOX Sports' Alex Marvez, Colts quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen has interviewed for the Dolphins' offensive coordinator position, along with another former Colts assistant in Frank Reich.
Christensen has been with the Colts for a long time, as he has been an assistant with them for the past 14 seasons. He has been the wide receivers coach (2002-2009), the assistant head coach (2008-2009), the offensive coordinator (2010-2011), and the quarterbacks coach (2012-2015). He has been on the staff of three different head coaches (Tony Dungy, Jim Caldwell, and Chuck Pagano) and has been a valuable resource for Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck, among others. Christensen has been a part of a ton of success with the Colts, as during his 14 years in Indy the team has made 12 playoff appearances, won nine division titles, made two Super Bowls, and won one. While working as the wide receivers coach for the Colts, Christensen coached players such as Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and others, and then as offensive coordinator he kept things moving in 2010 before being left with a mess at the quarterback position in 2011. Since then, Pagano kept him on staff as the quarterbacks coach and he is very well-regarded and very popular among the quarterbacks on the team. Earlier this year, Chuck Pagano referred to him as the best quarterbacks coach in the NFL.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this interview with the Dolphins, if anything. New head coach Adam Gase will be looking for someone to help him run his offense, and it sounds like Christensen is an option that Gase is considering. It would be a step up for Christensen and one that would have implications for Andrew Luck, as he would have a new quarterbacks coach entering next season despite keeping the same offensive coordinator in Rob Chudzinski. It would be a significant loss for the Colts if Christensen were to leave, but he hasn't taken the job yet, so we'll have to wait and see what comes of the interview.
