The Indianapolis Colts (7-8) will host the Tennessee Titans (3-12) in the regular season finale, a game that will likely be the final game for both teams until preseason play starts up in eight months.
I say "likely" because, as we all know, the Colts are technically still alive in the playoff race. If they beat the Titans on Sunday and the Texans lose to the Jaguars on Sunday, then both Indianapolis and Houston would have identical 8-8 records. It would then go to tiebreakers, and to keep it simple, the Colts would need seven different games to go right in order for them to win that tiebreaker (and that's in addition to the Colts winning and Texans losing). So, while it's not impossible, it's incredibly unlikely.
The Titans have a lot riding on this game as well, as they can secure the top overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft with a loss. They already have the biggest piece of the puzzle in place in quarterback Marcus Mariota, but they now need to build a team around him. Getting the first overall pick in the draft could certainly help things. It's a similar situation as the Colts were in during the 2011 season - if the Colts lost their regular season finale to the Jaguars, they would get the top overall pick. That's exactly what happened, and they took Andrew Luck.
Speaking of Andrew Luck and Marcus Mariota, neither one will play this Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, leaving backups Zach Mettenberger for the Titans and then either Stephen Morris, Josh Freeman, or Ryan Lindley for the Colts. Yeah, that's fitting for an AFC South regular season finale this year, that's for sure.
It could very well be an ugly game, but as we already mentioned, it very well could be your last chance to watch the Colts for eight months, too. So if you're looking for information about the game, we've got you covered:
