Even though the Colts activated Arthur Jones from the exempt list on Saturday, he won’t be making his season debut today after all.
Jones is among the Colts’ seven inactives for their game this afternoon against the Chicago Bears, which isn’t that big of a deal nor that big of a surprise. Here’s the full list of inactives:
Donte Moncrief, WR (shoulder)
Robert Turbin, RB (wrist/shoulder)
Le’Raven Clark, OL
Jeremy Vujnovich, OL
Jonotthan Harrison, C (appendectomy)
Devin Street, WR
Arthur Jones, DL
So there aren’t really any surprises with this list, and you’ll notice that only three of the seven inactives are due to injury. That’s good news for the Colts as it’s a sign that they’re getting healthier, and two of those inactives we knew about ahead of time. The only one of note today is that Robert Turbin is inactive, but he was listed as questionable with a wrist and shoulder injury that sidelined him for practice on Friday. So the Colts will be without their third string running back today, but they’ll still have Frank Gore, Josh Ferguson, and Jordan Todman at the position.
And as for Art Jones, Chuck Pagano on Friday seemed to indicate that Jones might not be ready to play right away, but the Colts activated him from the exempt list anyway on Saturday. There was really no harm in it because they were going to have healthy scratches anyway (meaning anyone they added to the roster late this week would likely have been inactive anyway), but we’re not going to see Jones make his season debut. And honestly, the Colts won’t miss anything. They were without Jones for the first four games of this season, they were without Jones all of last season, and they were without Jones for several games in 2014 too. The Colts aren’t going to miss anything at all from having Jones inactive, and the pressure is on him to play well enough when he does return that the Colts are convinced to keep him around.
