Lost in the Colts’ ugly loss to the Texans this afternoon was the fact that they also suffered a few injuries of note. Left guard Jack Mewhort left with a knee injury, outside linebacker Curt Maggitt left with a knee injury, and wide receiver Donte Moncrief left with a hamstring injury.
The biggest concern is with Mewhort, who went down on Frank Gore’s 18-yard touchdown catch and stayed down on the field for a little while before he had to be helped off the field. He appeared to be in quite a bit of pain and he was taken straight to the locker room, at which point he was ruled out for the rest of the game pretty quickly. So that’s a situation worth watching, but it would be a significant loss if Mewhort is out, as he’s done a good job this year at left guard and the last thing the Colts need is more shuffling up front.
Moncrief was noticeably absent from the game even when he was playing, as he finished with zero catches on four targets. He didn’t have a great game, and he left early with a hamstring injury. That was a significant loss for the Colts, as it meant that it was really up to T.Y. Hilton to carry things in the receiving game, since Phillip Dorsett certainly didn’t step up.
Also during the course of the game, players such as Frank Gore and Ryan Kelly missed some time with injuries, but they returned to the game. As for the three guys who didn’t return, we’ll have to wait and see what the extent of their injuries are, but if they’resignificant it would make a bad day even worse for the Colts.
