The Indianapolis Colts returned to practice today to prepare for their game this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, and they’ll need a ton of help if they hope to make the playoffs.
So basically, at this point they’re just playing for pride and for trying to win their final three games, trying to keep the slight bit of hope of the postseason alive. The Colts are dealing with a lot of injuries, however, including placing four guys on injured reserve this week: Jack Mewhort, Curt Maggitt, Clayton Geathers, and Patrick Robinson (so three starters).
The guys who are on the active roster are also dealing with some injuries, however, including some notable players. The most notable player to miss today’s practice was quarterback Andrew Luck, who sat out with right shoulder and right elbow injuries. The Colts and Luck expect him to be ready to go on Sunday, but he’s sore after taking a beating in their last game. Furthermore, starting tight end Dwayne Allen, starting outside linebacker Robert Mathis, starting wide receiver Donte Moncrief, and starting lineman Joe Reitz all missed practice due to injuries, while three other starters (Mike Adams, Vontae Davis, and Frank Gore) received rest days. It will be interesting to see when some of these players can get back, but Chuck Pagano did say today that he expects Mathis to return to practice tomorrow.
The good news is that both Denzelle Good and Zach Kerr were limited participants today after missing last week’s game with concussions, meaning that they are progressing through the protocol well and were likely cleared for non-contact participation. So we’ll have to see how well they progress this week.
