D’Qwell Jackson, Denzelle Good suffer concussions in Colts’ win

The only negative to emerge from Monday night’s blowout win for the Colts were a couple of injury situations, as inside linebacker D’Qwell Jackson and right guard Denzelle Good both suffered concussions in the victory.

That obviously means that they are now in the concussion protocol, which leads to questions about their availability for this Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. The Colts will be playing on a short week after playing on Monday night, giving Jackson and Good less time to get through the protocol. It doesn’t mean they won’t be able to pass it, but it does mean they have less time to do so. There’s a set protocol that players must go through before being cleared to play in a game, so Jackson and Good will need to pass that in order to play in Sunday’s huge game. With it being the most important game of the season for Indianapolis, it would be nice to be as close to full strength as possible.

Jackson is the Colts’ leading tackler on the season with 78 tackles in 12 games played, and he’s also added five tackles for loss, a sack, three passes defensed, and two fumble recoveries. He’s not great, but he’s the best inside linebacker the Colts have. Jackson hasn’t missed a game since signing with the Colts in 2014, and he’s actually played in 92 straight games. That ranks third among active linebackers, while his 92 straight starts ranks second. He’s been an ironman, but now he’ll have to pass the concussion protocol on a short week in order to keep that streak alive.

Good has started ten games at right guard this year, though the results have been up and down. He’s been the team’s starting right guard whenever healthy, but the Colts do have options to replace him - last night they shifted Joe Haeg to right guard and inserted Joe Reitz at right tackle. If Good can’t go on Sunday against the Texans, that would likely be the starting lineup.
