The Indianapolis Colts are playing on a short week this week after their game Monday night, and they’re preparing for their biggest game of the season this Sunday against the Houston Texans.
This Sunday’s game will determine who’s in first place of the division and who’s the likely division champion in a few weeks, so it’s incredibly important. It’s also important to be as close to full health as possible, and in that regard it’s a work in progress for Indy.
The Colts were without six players today (five due to injury), and it’s uncertain who will be back for Sunday’s game. Safety Clayton Geathers is week-to-week with a neck injury, which means that he likely will miss extended time, so he’s unlikely to play. Then Denzelle Good, Zach Kerr, and Curt Maggitt all have concussions and are in the protocol, so there’s a set standard that they have to follow before returning to the field. So at this point it’s really impossible to predict whether they’ll be able to play, since they simply have to go through all the steps of the protocol in order to be cleared. Every person and every concussion is a different case, so at this point we can’t say either way if they’ll play or not, but it’s certainly a real possibility that some or all of them won’t be available. And then Robert Mathis missed practice last week, the game on Monday, and practice today, but he’s described as day-to-day and there’s a chance he’ll be able to return this week, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
The good news for the Colts today was that Patrick Robinson returned to the field in a limited role, which is improvement after he missed practice last week and missed the game on Monday. So there’s some reason for optimism that he’ll be able to play this week, but that’s another injury we’ll have to monitor this week.
