The Indianapolis Colts returned to the practice field on Thursday to continue preparations for their huge game this Sunday against the Houston Texans, but they were once again without four significant players, casting legitimate doubt on the availability of all four of them for the game.
Clayton Geathers missed practice for the second straight day with a neck injury, and since he’s listed as week-to-week it’s likely that he will miss this Sunday’s game (at least). Right guard Denzelle Good and defensive lineman Zach Kerr both missed practice for the second straight day with concussions, and since they haven’t been cleared to practice yet they will face a tough time clearing the protocol in time for Sunday’s game. Lastly, outside linebacker Robert Mathis was also out for the second straight day as he deals with a bicep injury that also kept him out of practice and the game last week. With him missing two days of practice this week, it’s entirely possible that he won’t be able to go for the second straight game. So while we’ll have to wait and see regarding all of these players, there’s a decent chance that the Colts will know four of their gameday inactives early.
In other injury news, quarterback Andrew Luck was limited for the second straight day with a right shoulder injury. It’s somewhat uncommon for him to be limited on two straight days with the issue, but it’s really not that big of a deal nor is it reason for concern since he’s appeared on the injury report with the right shoulder issue all year and has been limited in practice often. Patrick Robinson (groin) was also limited for the second straight day, so while he’s returned to practice it doesn’t guarantee he’ll be ready to play Sunday since he’s been limited. That’s also a situation to watch, but the good news is that at least he’s practicing. And then outside linebacker Curt Maggitt was back at practice today in a limited role after missing yesterday’s practice with a concussion, so it likely means that he’s been cleared for a non-contact role in practice. We’ll have to wait and see whether he’s able to clear the protocol in time to play this week, but it’s encouraging that he was back to work today.
