The 2016 NFL Draft is concluding, and with it comes the frenzy of undrafted free agency. Teams place calls to various players in an effort to sign them and bring them in to work out in rookie minicamp and throughout offseason work into training camp.
These players can be a very nice complement to a draft class, and every year we see several undrafted free agents make rosters around the NFL. For the Colts, there seems to be an undrafted player every year who makes the team, and last year it was Yale running back Tyler Varga. Later in the year, they added Quan Bray to the active roster, who was an undrafted free agent with the team during the offseason and training camp.
When considering the players the Colts have under contract and the eight draft picks, the team has 16 roster spots still available on their 90-man offseason roster, and I would expect that most of those spots will go to undrafted players. There will be some players actually signed to contracts and others simply brought in for rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis, and at first it's hard to distinguish between which is which. Furthermore, these early reports about undrafted free agents are very much unofficial. We will be monitoring the reports and gathering them together here, but keep in mind that sometimes these reports are erroneous, while other times players get another call from a team that fits them better. So until the official list is released (likely within the next few days), take this with a grain of salt, but below we'll track the rumors and reports in regards to the Colts and undrafted free agents.
