Many fans refer to Lucas Oil Stadium as the House that Peyton built. Well, in 2017 the Colts will have a statue of Manning outside the stadium.
Earlier today, the team announced plans to honor the QB with a statue outside the stadium. Manning's will be the first statue of a Colts players outside the team's stadium (including the days of the RCA Dome). Indianapolis sculptor and fireman Ryan Feeney will be the one to design the statue.
Owner Jim Irsay said that the statue will be a destination spot for fans, including that it would be a place for fans to "leave cans of Budweiser or notes for Manning."
I don't know about leaving beer or notes for Manning, but I'm sure that many a fan will have their picture taken with the statue.
Since the project was just announced, there is no word on what the design of the statue will be.
Obviously, Manning was the face of the Colts for over a decade, leading the team to wins, division titles, and two Super Bowl appearances. I think it's an understatement to say that this is a well deserved honor for the quarterback.
