The Indianapolis Colts have the day off from practice today, but their management is still busy working on the roster. The team made a roster move today, signing wide receiver Andre Debose and placing wide receiver Brian Tyms on injured reserve.
Tyms was injured in Friday’s practice and appeared to have his ribs wrapped while he was in the trainer’s tent, though we didn’t get an update after practice. It was clear that the injury was significant, however, and he’s been placed on IR. Without a doubt, it’s a big hit for the Colts’ wide receiver depth. Behind T.Y. Hilton, Donte Moncrief, and Phillip Dorsett the position is completely up for grabs, but Brian Tyms and Josh Boyce have been the two getting the bulk of the reps after the top three. So now with Tyms out, the Colts have even more question marks about the depth at the position than they did before, even though that’s hard to believe.
As for the guy taking Tyms’ spot on the roster, Andre Debose (6-0, 190 pounds) was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh round of last year’s draft out of Florida. He spent the entire 2015 season on Oakland’s injured reserve, and then he was waived on June 3 of this year. At Florida, the bulk of Debose’s production came in the return game, as he set a Florida record with four kickoff return touchdowns (which is tied for the SEC record as well). He’ll be thrown right into the competition at wide receiver along with Josh Boyce, Quan Bray, and several undrafted rookies.
