Colts inactives vs. Lions: Jack Mewhort, Sio Moore both active

NFL: Indianapolis Colts at Carolina Panthers Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

We’re just over an hour away from kickoff of the Colts’ regular season opener against the Detroit Lions, and we now know who won’t be playing.

Here are the seven inactive players for the Colts today:

Darius Butler, CB (ankle)

Vontae Davis, CB (ankle)

Clayton Geathers, S (foot)

Austin Blythe, C

Joe Haeg, OL (ankle)

Chester Rogers, WR

Henry Anderson, DL (knee)

There really aren’t any surprises from this group as we knew of four of them Friday (Butler, Davis, Geathers, and Anderson were all ruled out), while Joe Haeg seemed unlikely to play as well. That already gave the Colts five of their seven inactives, and Austin Blythe and Chester Rogers filled out the list.

The team can make Blythe inactive since Jack Mewhort is active, as it’s likely that Mewhort will start (if he’s ready to play, he’s likely ready to start) - meaning that Jonotthan Harrison can be the backup at center and guard rather than the starter at left guard. As for Chester Rogers, it’s simply a numbers game - but it does mean that the Colts have just four receivers active (really only three, since Quan Bray is only on the team for his return abilities), so that’s certainly something to watch and a position that could become a concern if anyone is hurt.

The biggest news, however, is who will play, as Jack Mewhort, Kendall Langford, and Sio Moore are all active. Langford was expected to play, but Mewhort and Moore were both questionable. I’d assume that Mewhort will start at left guard, while it will be very interesting to see whether Moore will start at inside linebacker today or not - but either way, I’d expect the Colts to rotate some other guys (like Antonio Morrison and Josh McNary) into the mix too.
