The Indianapolis Colts will face the San Diego Chargers this afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium, but before we watch those players who will be trying to keep Indy from falling to 0-3 on the season, we first need to note the players who won’t be in uniform this afternoon.
For the most part, the list of the Colts’ inactives this afternoon is as expected, and the big news is that cornerback Vontae Davis and defensive lineman Henry Anderson are both active for the first time this season, meaning they will play. That’s huge news for the Colts defense.
As for the inactive guys, however, here’s the list:
Donte Moncrief, WR (shoulder)
Darius Butler, CB (hamstring)
Patrick Robinson, CB (concussion)
Le’Raven Clark, OL
Denzelle Good, OL (back)
Devin Street, WR
T.Y. McGill, DL
The big news is, again, the fact that Davis and Anderson are back. I wouldn’t expect either to be at their peak level of performance and the Colts will likely work them back in slowly, but it’s still two significant additions to their defense. But again, let’s temper expectations for this afternoon just a bit: Anderson will be playing in his first game since a torn ACL, while Davis probably won’t be at 100% yet.
With Denzelle Good out at right guard, the Colts will start rookie Joe Haeg there, according to the Anderson Herald Bulletin’s George Bremer. It was between Haeg and Jonotthan Harrison for the spot, and in my opinion the Colts absolutely made the right move in starting Haeg over Harrison. It will be very interesting to see how the rookie does in his first ever NFL start.
The Colts will be without some key players in Donte Moncrief, Patrick Robinson, Denzelle Good, and Darius Butler, but we already knew about that entering today. So really the only inactive that is even somewhat surprising is that T.Y. McGill won’t play, but that’s likely due to Anderson’s return. The Colts will have Kendall Langford, Henry Anderson, David Parry, Zach Kerr, and Hassan Ridgeway active, so while McGill is a notable inactive, he’s the odd man out along the defensive line after a very quiet first couple of weeks.
As for the Chargers, here are the players who won’t play - including Antonio Gates.
