The Indianapolis Colts returned to the practice field on Thursday, and once again quarterback Andrew Luck was only a limited participant due to his right shoulder.
Luck was also a limited participant on Wednesday, and during the open portion of practice today (which only includes individual drills) Luck only conducted handoffs while Scott Tolzien handled the throwing duties. Offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski said today that he “absolutely” expects Luck to play on Sunday, while general manager Ryan Grigson appeared on 1070 the Fan today and denied a report that Luck has labrum fraying, saying instead that limiting him in practice is simply part of the plan. So what we’re hearing certainly seems to indicate that it’s nothing serious and that it’s simply precautionary, but it’s just a strange situation and one that wasn’t expected this week. It’s certainly something worth paying attention to moving forward.
Here’s the full injury report for Thursday’s practice, followed by a few more notes:
Did Not Practice:
Darius Butler, CB (ankle)
Vontae Davis, CB (ankle)
Clayton Geathers, S (foot)
Limited Participation:
Joe Haeg, T (ankle)
Henry Anderson, DT (knee)
Kendall Langford, DE (knee)
Andrew Luck, QB (right shoulder)
Jack Mewhort, T/G (knee)
Sio Moore, ILB (hamstring)
Joe Reitz, G (back)
The only change in the injury report from yesterday is a piece of good news, as Joe Haeg - who didn’t practice yesterday - was a limited participant today. That’s good sign in his recovery, though owner Jim Irsay said on Tuesday that Haeg isn’t expected to play this weekend and will likely only be used in an emergency.
Along those same lines, it’s very possible that several of the guys who have been limited won’t play on Sunday, such as Henry Anderson (who’s already been ruled out), Sio Moore and Jack Mewhort. So while it sounds like Andrew Luck is going to play, just because a guy has been working in a limited basis doesn’t mean that he’ll be ready to play on Sunday.
