The Colts will host the Jaguars this afternoon in the regular season finale, and both teams are already out of the playoff race and therefore playing for nothing more than pride and draft positioning.
That means that the teams should be cautious with injuries, and it seems that’s what the Colts are doing. They ruled cornerback Darius Butler out on Friday as he’s still going through the concussion protocol, while wide receiver Donte Moncrief was listed as doubtful with a shoulder injury. Neither one of them will play today, nor will cornerback Rashaan Melvin, who was questionable with a knee injury.
The only player who was listed on the final injury report who will actually play for the Colts today is linebacker Chris Carter, who missed last Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury and was questionable for today’s game. He was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday and a full participant on Friday.
This will mean a bigger opportunity for some of the depth guys on the team, as Phillip Dorsett and Chester Rogers will get more reps at wide receiver, while Darryl Morris and others (like Christopher Milton) should get more reps at cornerback. And since Butler is out, it means that T.J. Green should see the bulk of the reps at safety alongside Mike Adams. In a meaningless game like this one, it’s not the worst thing for the Colts to get a better chance to see some of these young guys.
The other inactives for the Colts today are not surprising, as they’re some of the usual names on this list. Here’s the full list of inactives:
Donte Moncrief, WR (shoulder)
Darius Butler, CB (concussion)
Rashaan Melvin, CB (knee)
Deiontrez Mount, OLB
Austin Blythe, OL
Kristjan Sokoli, DL
Jeremy Vujnovich, OL
