As we mentioned earlier this morning, the Colts’ GM opening is expected to garner quite a bit of interest around the NFL as plenty of people would love the chance to build this team around Andrew Luck, but outside of Jimmy Raye III we don’t know who the Colts will talk to.
According to the USA Today’s Tom Pelissero, the Colts have put in a request to interview Trent Kirchner and Scott Fitterer, both members of the Seattle Seahawks.
Kirchner and Fitterer actually share the title of co-director of player personnel with Seattle, overseeing all compartments of the scouting the team does, both with college and pro talent. When looking at what Seattle has done in recent years and the team they’ve put together, it should be no surprise that the Colts want to talk with them. Kirchner is probably more well-known, but both men have played a role in building the Seahawks team.
Pelissero wrote that the Colts have sent out several interview requests and that Kirchner and Fitterer are two of the names on that list. Jim Irsay talked about having a list of candidates and mentioned that he might add more names to it too, so it’s clear that the search is just now getting underway. We know that Irsay will interview Jimmy Raye for the opening, and it’s been reported that Irsay will be conducting interviews this week in Mobile at the Senior Bowl. It’s possible that interviews with the Seattle executives could take place there, assuming the Colts get permission to do so.
