“Are the Colts thinking Rashaan Melvin, Pierre Desir, Nate Hairston and Quincy Wilson are the long-term future at cornerback, or are they still looking for starters in 2018?”
I would imagine that is the plan, but they’ll never stop looking at upgrading every spot on their roster. Everybody’s got to earn their spot, so no one is untouchable. Looking at that group, it’s a young group but they’ve played great football for the Colts. Melvin and Desir are free agents after the season but I’m sure the Colts will look to re-sign them.

“Do you think it would have been better to have traded Vontae Davis then to have just cut him?”
Great question. I can almost guarantee that the Colts engaged in plenty of trade talks regarding Davis closer to the trade deadline, but his $4 million price tag for 2017 is hefty for a guy with sketchy health and who doesn’t play well while hurt. In a perfect world, I would have liked for them to get something for him — maybe a Day 3 draft pick — but waiving him was about the only thing they could do. Teams don’t want to rent an expensive, injury-prone veteran who becomes a free agent in 2018.
