Could Marlon Mack see his kick return role increased?

The Colts have placed wide receiver and kick returner Quan Bray on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury and elevated nose tackle Joey Mbu from the practice squad today.

This is the second season for Bray that ends with him on IR, and is disappointing as he currently sits at 559 all-purpose yards and was averaging 23.9 yards per return on kickoff returns. Bray was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2015.

Second-year player Joey Mbu spent most of his rookie season on the Falcons practice squad, but finished the season on the active roster and recorded four tackles. He was signed to the Colts’ practice squad in September and could offer some depth on the defensive line.

Given Bray’s consistent production it will be interesting to see who the Colts will use as their primary returner. Marlon Mack has been back with Bray and it might open up an opportunity for one of the Colts’ most dynamic playmakers to make some things happen on special teams.
