For Indianapolis Colts fans, this season has been the nightmare you just can’t wake up from. In what has otherwise been a rather encouraging year for the development of the secondary, sprinkled with odd circumstances like a serious knee injury to this year’s first round safety, to a second round rookie who can’t get onto the field, and to a veteran former Pro Bowler who earned his release from the team, now they face another task - losing one of their best remaining cornerbacks.
Pierre Desir has been placed on injured reserve with a pectoral muscle tear. Desir, who has started six games with the Colts this season, and has made 32 tackles (21 solo), has picked off 1 pass, and defended 7 others. The 27 year-old corner was originally drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2014, but has also spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers, and Seattle Seahawks before signing with the Colts in 2017.
Head coach Chuck Pagano commented on the unfortunate injury: “It’s a shame... really proud of what Pierre has done for us and his teammates and ‘the shoe.’”
While this is obviously bad news for the team, it should open up more ‘in game’ opportunities for players like Quincy Wilson who have seen limited action in the regular season so far.

With the open roster spot, management elected to sign RB Matt Jones back to the active roster. Jones has been bouncing on and off the team’s roster throughout the season, and has played in 3 games this season, carrying the ball 5 times for 14 yards. The Colts provided the below information in their press release of the signing:
“Jones, 6-2, 239 pounds, was waived by the Colts on December 2. He was most recently elevated to Indianapolis’ 53-man roster from the practice squad on September 22. Jones saw action in three games for the Colts this season and tallied five carries for 14 yards. He has played in 23 career games (seven starts) with Indianapolis (2017) and the Washington Redskins (2015-16) and has registered 248 carries for 964 yards and six touchdowns. Jones has also caught 27 passes for 377 yards and one touchdown. He was originally selected by the Redskins in the third round (95th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Florida.”
The team also signed cornerback Taurean Nixon to the practice squad.
