This is a big week both in the NFL and for the city of Indianapolis: the annual Scouting Combine!
Players begin arriving today for the event, which hosts hundreds of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft in Indy for extensive examination, and as a result executives, coaches, and scouts from the teams all are in Indy as well.
Though it’s often the on-field workouts that get people talking (mainly the 40 time), the on-field workouts actually don’t start until Friday even though players begin arriving today. The NFL staggers the arrival dates depending on the position, and then each group stays four days.
Here’s the arrival schedule this week:
- On the first day (February 28), kickers, special teams players, offensive linemen, and running backs arrive.
- On the second day (March 1), quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends arrive.
- On the third day (March 2), defensive linemen and linebackers arrive.
- And on the fourth day (March 3), defensive backs arrive.
And here’s the schedule for each group upon arrival:
- Day 1: Registration, hospital examinations, orientation, interviews
- Day 2: Measurements, medical examination, interviews
- Day 3: Psychological testing, NFLPA meeting, media availability, bench press, interviews
- Day 4: On-field workouts
A lot of the events this week will be televised on NFL Network, which gives fans the chance to see interviews and workouts.
