The Indianapolis Colts are hosting another free agent, as according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora they are hosting linebacker Kevin Minter on a free agent visit.
Minter was a second round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2013 out of LSU, and over the last four seasons with the Cardinals he has played in 61 games and started 37, recording 223 tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble, and four passes defensed. He started every game for the Cardinals over the past two years and has turned into a nice player, though there hasn’t been much reported interest yet for him yet on the open market.
For the Colts, though, this makes a lot of sense. Minter would be a fit for them at inside linebacker, where they really need talent. He’s just 26 years old, talented, has experience, would address a big position of need, and won’t cost a ton - in other words, he seems right in line with the type of players Chris Ballard has already brought in so far this free agency period.
The Colts have typically been very good at closing the deal with free agents who visit, with Dontari Poe yesterday being a notable exception. Normally, like with Jabaal Sheard, the Colts do a good job of selling free agents on signing with them, so it will be worth watching whether they strike a deal with Kevin Minter. He’s not the most exciting player, but he’s a guy who makes some sense for the Colts.
