Perhaps the most common question around draft time has something to do with this: what is the best pick for a certain team?
Often times, this is what mock drafts are trying to identify, and it also seems to be the reason many people disagree with mock drafts too. And it’s the very question that NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks are seeking to answer for each team, and yesterday they discussed the Colts.
They identified Tennessee edge rusher Derek Barnett as the “perfect” pick for the Colts in the first round, and Jeremiah said, “Barnett is one of the more natural pass rushers we have in this draft class. He's not explosive in testing, but you see him win with speed and he can really bend around the edge.”
Then in the second round, they identified the perfect fit for the Colts as being running back Alvin Kamara, also from Tennessee. “Kamara can be an electric playmaker out of the backfield for Andrew Luck,” Brooks said. “He has the speed to take it the distance in the running game and is also a crafty route runner with strong hands.”
Regardless of whether you see these two as being the absolute best picks for the Colts at each spot, this would nevertheless be a terrific first two rounds for the Colts. It would give them a talented pass rusher to add to the defense while also giving them a capable running back to complement Frank Gore and hopefully be a long-term guy there. It’s clear that the Colts will be looking to address both the pass rush and the running back position, and while the second round doesn’t exactly fit Jim Irsay’s statement of wanting a later round running back, Kamara would be a nice pickup in the second round.
What would be your thoughts on these two picks for the Colts?
