Report: Colts to host Shaquill Griffin on visit Thursday

NCAA Football: Central Florida at South Florida Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts continue to use their 30 visits to get to know prospects better in advance of the upcoming NFL Draft, and they’ll host another one tomorrow.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, Central Florida cornerback Shaquill Griffin will visit the Colts on Thursday.

Griffin really stood out at the Combine, where he ran a 4.38 40, had a 38.5 vertical jump, and a broad jump of 11. During his four years at Central Florida he racked up 125 tackles, seven interceptions, and 31 passes defensed. He played mainly cornerback but also had some experience starting at safety. The Colts were one of the teams to meet with him at the Combine, and now they’re bringing him in for a visit.

The Colts’ interest in Griffin makes sense, as they like versatility in the secondary. Griffin is an intriguing player based not only on his production in college but his athleticism and that versatility, and though teams are starting to pay attention to him he still figures to be a mid-round pick - though that stock could keep rising.

It shouldn’t be surprising to see the Colts take interest in cornerbacks in the pre-draft process, and we should expect that to continue all the way up until the draft. The Colts are expected to address the position in the draft, and it’s possible that Griffin could hear his name called by the Colts.
