Earlier this week the NFL announced the preseason schedules for each team, but the exact dates and times were still uncertain for those games.
The Colts today provided that information, however, so we now not only know who the Colts will be playing in the preseason but when those games will take place too. Here’s the schedule:
Week 1: vs. Detroit Lions - Sunday, August 13, 1:30 p.m. ET
Week 2: at Dallas Cowboys - Saturday, August 19, 7:00 p.m. ET
Week 3: at Pittsburgh Steelers - Saturday, August 26, 7:30 p.m. ET
Week 4: vs. Cincinnati Bengals - Thursday, August 31, 7:00 p.m. ET
So the Colts will open the preseason on a Sunday afternoon at home and close the preseason on a Thursday night at home, and in-between they’ll play two Saturday night games on the road.
This information also helps us get an idea of when the Colts will begin training camp, as teams are allowed to open camp 15 days before their first preseason game. So since the Colts’ first game is on August 13, we should expect the Colts to report to camp on or around Saturday, July 29. Keep in mind, however, that this year the team is staying home for camp and conducting practices at their West 56th Street facility.
The preseason will provide a really good test for this year’s Colts team, as the second and third games against the Cowboys and Steelers (the two games in which the starters typically play the most) will test Indy’s revamped defense. The first game is nice to be able to see the team on the field again, while the fourth game is for competition and depth spots.
