NFL Draft 2017 first round open thread

NFL: 2017 NFL Draft Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL Draft is almost upon us!

One of the biggest weekends of the year in the NFL takes place over the next few days. Tonight the first round of the draft will take place, then tomorrow night will feature the second and third rounds, while Saturday will wrap up with rounds four through seven.

Tonight, however, is the biggest one of them all, as the 32 first round picks will take place. The Colts, of course, select 15th overall, so they’ll be right in the middle. The draft tonight begins at 8:00 p.m. ET, and you can watch it on either ESPN or NFL Network. We’ve been discussing and debating for months about who the Colts should take with their first pick, and tonight we’ll finally find out.

We know that the Colts have desperate needs on the defensive side of the football, with EDGE, cornerback, and inside linebacker being the most glaring of those. But we also can’t rule out the Colts going another direction either, as it’s possible they could take a running back or an offensive lineman too. Chris Ballard has been playing things very close to the chest, and he has really tried not to let on regarding who he’s interested in.

That’s kind of the feeling with the entire first round and the entire draft, too, as there doesn’t seem to be much clarity regarding what’s going to happen. It’s been reported that the Browns will take Myles Garrett first overall, but beyond that there’s simply a bunch of rumors about what might happen. One thing seems certain though: this will be a very interesting draft.

So as we approach the draft, consider this your open thread to discuss draft strategy and prospects you want for the Colts, as well as discuss the picks as they happen and as we lead up to the Colts. And throughout the draft, you can follow all the picks via our draft tracker right here.
