One of the most important takeaways from the offseason program each year is how healthy a team emerges. For the Colts this year, it seems they’ve been pretty fortunate.
Though several key players are recovering from previous injuries - most notably quarterback Andrew Luck - the Colts seem to have avoided any serious injury occurring during OTAs.
We did find out about one new injury last night, however, as Chuck Pagano revealed at the Colts Town Hall that defensive lineman Hassan Ridgeway has been out for the last couple weeks of the offseason program and is on the mend.
That’s the first we’ve heard of that, though some had previously noticed that it seemed Ridgeway wasn’t participating. It’s unclear what the injury is, so therefore it’s hard to tell when he’s projected to be back. The Colts will hold their mini-camp this week, but after that will be off until the start of training camp at the end of July. So if Ridgeway isn’t back in time for next week’s mini-camp, then he’ll have a month-plus to continue to recover to get back in time for camp. Hopefully, he’ll be back at least by then.
Ridgeway could play a big role on the defensive line in 2017 after a quiet but promising rookie season, as he’ll be in the mix at a pretty solid and deep position group. Hopefully the injury, whatever it is, isn’t too serious and he’ll be able to be back competing by training camp.
