While most attention has been shifted to Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck’s rehabilitation from off-season shoulder surgery, Clayton Geathers has been on the mend as well. Geathers finished last season on the sidelines due to a neck injury suffered against the Titans.
Clayton has been a bright spot on an otherwise atrocious Colts defense. His physical play was a welcomed addition to the team. After his injury the Colts struggled even more containing the run. Unfortunately for the team, Geathers will be out at least the first six weeks of the regular season as he is being placed on the PUP (physically unable to perform list).
This is definitely a blow to the defense, however the Colts did just take Malik Hooker in the first round of the 2017 draft - so they do have better depth at safety than years past. Make no mistake about it, Clayton Geathers is by far the Colts most physical safety and his presence will be missed. We can only expect the Colts to play it smart with Geathers, similar to how they have done with Andrew Luck, and not rush him back to play.
