The Indianapolis Colts have signed free agent running back Daryl Richardson and placed running back George Winn on Injured Reserve.
Richardson (5-11, 196, 27) is most known for his time with the then-St. Louis Rams (2012-’13). He has started 3-of-27 career games and run for 697 yards on 169 carries (4.1 avg). He has also caught 38 passes for 284 yards (7.5 avg). At one point, it looked like Richardson could take over for Steven Jackson, but Richardson was waived during the 2014 offseason after failing to continue his early momentum.
Richardson has also spent time on the active roster and/or practice squad with the New York Jets (2014-’15), Houston Texans (2015), Cleveland Browns (2015), Pittsburgh Steelers (2016) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2016). He has not had any meaningful playing time since 2013.
The Colts signed Winn three weeks ago, and have not seen him do much of anything in the preseason (5 touches for 15 yards in three preseason games).
Winn joins running back Christine Michael and cornerbacks Darryl Morris and Tevin Mitchel on IR.
With this swap, the Colts now have the following at running back: Frank Gore, Robert Turbin, Marlon Mack, Troymaine Pope, Josh Ferguson and Richardson.
