Chuck Pagano said Donte Moncrief suffered a mild AC sprain in his left shoulder according to Kevin Bowen of Colts.com. The injury occurred during 1-on-1 drills and happened when Moncrief fell on it. While this is not in and of itself any reason for concern, some history does have to be taken into account. Last season Moncrief missed 5 games with a fractured scapula and was knocked out of the final game due to another shoulder injury.
Moncrief’s biggest detractor so far in his young career has been an inability to stay on the field, and if this issue lingers it will likely impact his production. I have said before that this year is a big year for Moncrief, and if this injury turns out to be anything more than a minor one it would be a killer for both he and the team as a whole.
Given how good he has looked so far in camp, it is likely that the Colts will be overly cautious with him, which means that the remaining receivers will get more opportunities to show their abilities with the 1s. Players like Kamar Aiken, Phillip Dorsett, and Quan Bray would be wise to capitalize on that opportunity.
To reiterate, there is nothing here that should be overly alarming, but Moncrief’s health definitely warrants a close eye in the coming weeks.
