After sitting out the majority of the preseason, Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers brought second-year Colts’ running back Josh Ferguson a good amount of action. Ferguson looked solid and appeared to possibly still be in play for the roster going forward.
Apparently either in the preseason Week 3 matchup, or soon after, Ferguson injured his ribs and it ended up keeping him out of practice in a short week before the preseason finale, and out of the game itself.
Per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle Ferguson was waived-injured by the Colts as a result of that injury.
Colts waived-injured Josh Ferguson, per a source. Has rib injury. Expected to recover in three to four weeks

Ferguson had 15 rush attempts for 20 yards, and caught 20 passes for 136 yards last season for the Colts. Ferguson will revert to the Colts Injured Reserve if he clears waivers.
To this point the Colts have not begun to purge down to their 53-man roster, but the non-injury related cuts are coming over the coarse of the next 24 hours.
