Colts Waive/Release 4 More Making Room for Waiver Acquisitions

New, comments
NFL: Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

As a result of claiming five off of waivers, the Colts have to clear room on the initial 53-man roster. We’ve mentioned over the last couple days that quick adjustments are often made to the initial list and this year has been no exception.

We have already passed on that the Colts had released Brian Schwenke but to off-set five acquired players the Colts waived/released 4 more:

Tackle — Zach Banner

Safety — Ronald Martin

QB — Stephen Morris

TE — Brandon Williams

There are a couple of real surprises here. While I initially didn’t expect Banner to make the roster, his progress during camp and preseason led to me change my mind. I was quite certain they would keep him on the roster.

It is also surprising seeing Brandon Williams let go. He joined the team as a known blocking specialist and used the preseason to put to rest the idea that he has stone hands and therefore is unreliable in the passing game. With his release, the Colts are now down to Jack Doyle, Erik Swoope (who has been injured) and Darell Daniels not withstanding any further moves.

There is a very real likelihood that the Colts roster is still very fluid at this point.
