The Indianapolis Colts have signed inside linebacker Darnell Sankey to a reserve/future contract, locking up his rights for at least the 2018 season.
Sankey (6-2, 250, 23) joined the Colts during the 2017 preseason and played the final two preseason games with them. He bounced from the active roster and the practice squad throughout the season. He was waived at the end of November and spent the final month of the season on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.
Sankey did not record any statistics in six games with the Colts this season. He only saw action on special teams, playing 100 snaps, which was 22% of the Colts’ special teams snaps on the season.
This was Sankey’s second NFL season, previously spending time with the Denver Broncos (2016), Oakland Raiders (2016), Kansas City Chiefs (2016) and Minnesota Vikings (2017).
