Aside from actually watching players, the Senior Bowl is a great place to network and link up with NFL personnel. With that, plenty of rumors and buzz is created. We now have some involving the Colts.

According to Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst, “The Indianapolis Colts hope to come out of the offseason with as many as three new linebackers and several cornerbacks. Word in Mobile is that the Colts would be willing to trade out of the third selection in order to accumulate extra draft picks.”

The fact that the Colts are open to trading out of the No. 3 spot isn’t very surprising, as general manager Chris Ballard has mentioned before that they always look to accumulate extra draft picks when they can. They are also not looking for a starting quarterback like many other teams in the top 10 of the draft.

If the Colts would like to come away with as many as three new linebackers, it says a couple of things. First, 2017’s starters are in trouble. Jon Bostic is a free agent, and Antonio Morrison could be on the chopping block. They may also not be sold on Anthony Walker Jr. yet either, or will look to get some young talent next to him. There will be competition ahead for Walker at the least.

The Colts could also be moving to a 4-3 defense from their 3-4 hybrid under the new coaching staff. Rumored new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and defensive line coach Mike Phair are a couple of indicators that the defense will be moving in the four-man front direction.

At cornerback, we would like to assume that Quincy Wilson (and maybe Kenny Moore) is a safe bet heading into 2018, but that’s not how Ballard and Josh McDaniels roll. Everyone will have to earn it, especially under the pressure of competition. Rashaan Melvin and Pierre Desir are both free agents as well, so the Colts will have to be prepared in case neither is re-signed.

These rumors certainly make things more interesting heading into free agency and draft season.
