Ryan’s Week 10 Film Review (Colts escape Jags)

First, two brief notes on the offense. The bad running game was a little bit of everything: missed blocks, extra guys in the box, LBs filling the holes and otherwise making tackles, etc. The second half futility was mostly not Luck’s fault. Three dropped passes including the INT. Two of his short completions were clearly dictated by the play calls after a penalty had backed them up.

This week, I focused on the DL. The official box score lists no QB sacks and only one QB hit. While this sums up the lack of pass rush quite well, I did look at how many times a guy beat a pass block.

There were only 7 total beaten blocks on 39 passes: Muhammad 3 times, Lewis twice and Sheard twice. On two plays (Lewis twice, Autry once) the Colts DL turned what would have been a pass play into a scramble.

I also looked at the number of times a guy beat a run block. This happened 17 times in 32 plays (not 17 total plays because there were multiple guys on some plays): Sheard 4 times, Autry and Stewart 3 times apiece, Woods and Hunt twice, Lewis, Muhammad, and Phillips once each.

Total blocks beaten (snap counts taken from Chris Blystone’s Week 10 snap count chart on Stampede Blue):

  • Muhammad 4 on 32 snaps
  • Stewart 3 on 23 snaps
  • Sheard 6 on 56 snaps
  • Lewis 5 on 54 snaps
  • Autry 4 on 51 snaps
  • Woods 2 on 24 snaps
  • Hunt 2 on 51 snaps
  • Phillips 1 on 7 snaps

I haven't done any other weeks or any other teams, but I suspect this is below average.
