The Indianapolis Colts (6-6) travel to face the Houston Texans (9-3) as their AFC South foes are in the midst of a 9-game win streak. The Colts are coming off of their worst performance of the season and the Texans find themselves putting their offense together to match their defensive output for the first time of the year over the past 5 games.
This matchup is a must-win for the Colts as they hope to stay within arm’s reach of a Wild Card berth as it appears that the division might already be too far from their grasp. The Colts allowed 3 sacks last week which was more than they allowed over the past 5 games combined, and there wasn’t much in the way of the playmakers doing their thing in Week 13.
On the other hand, the defense has been continuing their opportunistic play which is highly encouraging. The Texans’ offense has been averaging nearly 30 points per game and the Colts will have to continue to stop the run game, put the handcuffs on a couple players in particular, and will need to find a way to keep DeShaun Watson in the pocket and getting consistent pressure on him simultaneously.
Offensively, the Colts’ O-line has a monster challenge in keeping J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney out of the backfield, among other disruptors, and will also have to find a way to consistently move the chains with a running game that hasn’t stepped up lately, and a receiver corps that is bereft of playmakers and is extremely hard to predict in terms of weekly production.
Today we’ll dive into the matchup a little deeper, and will discuss the keys to a Colts victory in their Week 14 matchup in Houston.
