The Colts enter week 15 with a chance for a Wildcard Playoff spot. The Chargers are VERY likely to claim the top Wildcard spot. The remaining AFC Wildcard spot is likely one of the 7-6 teams, including the Colts.
The teams that are in the Wildcard race have the following schedules:
Team | Record | Week 15 | Week 16 | Week 17 | AFC Record | Record Prediction | AFC Prediction |
Chargers | 10-3 | at Kansas City | Baltimore | at Denver | 7-2 | 12-4 | 9-2 |
Colts | 7-6 | Dallas | NY Giants | at Tennessee | 6-5 | 10-6 | 7-5 |
Ravens | 7-6 | Tampa Bay | at LA Chargers | Cleveland | 6-4 | 9-7 | 7-5 |
Titans | 7-6 | at NY Giants | Washington | Indianapolis | 5-6 | 9-7 | 5-7 |
Dolphins | 7-6 | at Minnesota | Jacksonville | at Buffalo | 6-4 | 9-7 | 8-4 |
Broncos | 6-7 | Cleveland | at Oakland | LA Chargers | 4-5 | 8-8 | 6-6 |
Browns | 5-7-1 | at Denver | Cincinnati | at Baltimore | 4-5 | 6-9-1 | 5-7 |
I really see no way that the Chargers don't finish as the top Wildcard spot. They may even contend for the division, although I think that the Chiefs should be the favorites to stay at the top of that division.
The first tiebreaker is always head-to-head, but with multiple teams tied, that rarely comes into play. The next tiebreaker is Conference record. The Colts currently trail the Dolphins and Ravens.
I think if the Colts win out, they should be alone at 10-6 and win the 2nd Wildcard spot. The #6 seed in the playoffs, but still a playoff experience and a long-shot at winning it all. The Dolphins are a threat to hit 10-6, but the Colts have a head-to-head win over the Dolphins, if the two teams are tied at 10-6.
A 3-way tie can't really be worked thru with 3 games yet to play. It could be a cluster of teams at 9-7, and then it is likely to be some other team that gets the Wildcard. The Colts really need to win.
Week 15 ... cross your fingers for some of the 7-6 teams to lose and the Colts to win. Dallas will come in needing a win, and the Colts need to play a great game to beat them.
