Despite all the “chatter,” Josh McDaniels is officially the Colts new head coach. With that business locked in, the Colts have wasted no time in the process of getting his staff in place. According to Albert Breer, they have already got contracts in place for Matt Eberflus to take over as the defensive coordinator, Dave DeGuglielmo as the offensive line coach, and Mike Phair as the defensive line coach.
Per sources, the Colts also have contracts in place with three of Josh McDaniels' new assistants: Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo and DL coach Mike Phair.

Matt Eberflus was long rumored to be the guy at the defensive coordinator spot, and we broke down his football background a few weeks back. He has a history in multiple schemes, so it will be very interesting to see what he brings to the table for this young Colts defense.
Dave DeGuglielmo comes over from the Patriots and has a long history with offensive lines. That is good, because the Colts have a pretty dreadful record where offensive line play is concerned. Guglielmo will hopefully be able to inject some life into the line and help keep Luck on his feet. It also will help to have a guy McDaniels has already worked closely with in that role.
Mike Phair leaves Lovie Smith’s coaching staff at the University of Illinois to take over the reins of what is likely the Colts’ strongest position group. He has been a part of some pretty solid defenses while working with Smith through the years, and it will be very interesting to see what he can do with this group.
There will be more staff hirings in the coming days, and tomorrow we may get more answers about just how that might shape this team in the future.
