Options at #6:

It is old news that the Indianapolis Colts moved down to the #6 pick after making a trade with the New York Jets. If Ballard drafts correctly, this trade could be beneficial to the Colts as we are in a rebuild to save Andrew Luck's career. The #6 pick gives the Colts options and could overall lead to a difference maker. The Cleveland Browns and New York Jets are two teams that are 100% going to draft a quarterback. However, teams like the Broncos and New York Giants are in need of a QB longterm, but could go a year or two without drafting a quarterback which could allow the Colts to miss out on a potential game changer. Teams like the Bills, Cardinals, Dolphins, and Patriots (Yes Tom Brady cannot play forever and now the Patriots have two first round picks) are teams that could trade up to snag a potential franchise quarterback. The Colts have 6 options right now in my opinion in who they could draft.

1. Bradley Chubb - NFL scouts cannot say enough good things about Chubb. It would work out perfect if the Colts could snag him at #6 because I believe thats who they would of taken at #3. Chubb would bring an immediate impact to Colts and a talent they have not seen since Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis.

2. Quenton Nelson - Drafting a guard at #3 is almost unheard of, however taking Nelson at #6 is more likely. Scouts believe that Nelson is the safest pick in the draft and has a higher ceiling than Zac Martin. Would immediately boost the offensive line and add toughness to it.

3. Saquon Barkley - It seems like a long shot here, but the top overall prospect in this draft could possibly fall in the Colts lap. It could be possible that 4 QBs go in the top 5 to the Browns, Giants, Jets, and Broncos and if the Browns with their #4 pick decide to go defense, Barkley could be available at six. NFL GM's are well aware that you can find a RB in the later rounds and this is a deep RB class. A duo of Barkley and Luck could be special as both are the top prospects for their position in the last decade coming out of college.

4. Secondary Help (Minkah Fitzpatrick/Denzel Ward) - The Colts drafted heavily in the secondary last year with Hooker, Wilson, and Hairston. However, Ballard talks a lot about having good competition at each position. A wildcard pick here if Chubb, Nelson, and Barkley are gone would be Fitzpatrick or Ward. Both have high potential and paring one of them with Hooker, Wilson, Geathers, and Hairston would be scary for opposing quarterbacks.

5. Linebacker (Tremaine Edmunds/Roquan Smith) - The Colts linebacker core has been one of the weakest in the leagues since the departures of Freeman and D'Qwell Jackson. The Colts need a young leader who can be productive and fit their new defense. The Colts have met with Roquan Smith, but I believe they would trade the pick before drafting one of these guys at 6.

6. Trade the pick - The Colts are in a rebuild and already have a franchise QB. If Chubb, Nelson, and Barkley are off the board that leads 2-3 possible franchise QB's that teams would trade a lot of picks for. The Colts could end up trading down and receiving 2-4 more picks in the first couple of round to add to there already 3 second round picks. I personally want the Colts to trade the pick if Chubb, Barkley, and Nelson are not available.

Conclusion:

The Colts are in a great position right now. They hired a new coaching staff and have a GM that actually knows how to evaluate and draft a team. Picking at #6 gives them amazing leverage as they could draft Chubb, Barkley, or Nelson. However, if all of them are gone then that leaves a potential franchise QB available that teams would trade up for. Everyone complaining about Ballards spending in free agency this year will be satisfied in 2-3 years when the Colts have stacked two drafts together. We currently have 7 picks in the next two drafts in the first two rounds and if you draft right that is 7 starters. When you are able to build a culture and draft well that is when you go out and sign more free agents. NFL GM's want to draft there own guys and build within the draft. If you second guess this look at teams like the Patriots, Eagles, Steelers, Vikings, and Jaguars who have been consistent with their drafting in the last few years and it has paid off. In the words of Joel Embiid "Trust the Process", when in doubt we have Andrew Luck and he took a Ryan Grigson team to the AFC championship.... also Brady has to retire sometime right?

Comment below who you the Colts should take at #6 and include who you think they should draft in the second round!

Go Colts.
