Back in June, misdemeanor charges were filed against Colts DE Chris McCain regarding an incident with a woman who accused him of spitting on her and grabbing her neck. McCain flatly denied the claims, stating that the accuser was lying.
Some confusion existed around the situation has been over the fact that the Chargers appeared to know about the allegation and referred it to the league office. The Colts released a statement which simply said that they were aware of the situation and would be investigating it thoroughly. Additionally, they held McCain out of minicamp.
This week there was an update on the case:
Update: Colts DE Chris McCain was arraigned this wk in L.A. on two misdemeanor battery charges. Pleaded not guilty and was ordered by court to stay minimum of 100 yards away from alleged victim. Next hearing scheduled for Aug. 21. McCain was held out of Colts minicamp in June.

This situation bears close monitoring because it will cast a shadow over McCain until the whole story is known and judgements are rendered. Should he be found guilty, regardless of his actual legal penalty, he would almost certainly face consequences from the league, and it might put his position with the team in serious jeopardy.
The next hearing on August 21st will take place right after the Colts’ second preseason game. Until then we will continue to wait on more details to come to light.
